Exercise 1 - Getting My Head Straight

Have a bit of time to yourself?...it might be a good time to “get your head straight”!

So often we fail to make progress as we have conflicting thoughts blocking us...about the same thing. This is the equivalent to having your foot on the brake and the accelerator at the same time....on ice! You’re spinning your wheels ...making NO progress.... but you’re exhausted from the effort!

Hopefully this little exercise will help you to literally get your head straight! There are 3 questions to answer in total.

When originally shared on my website I asked them on separate posts so people could focus completely on each one at a time. From experience the longer you can sit gently with it...writing your answers out...and being BRUTALLY honest with yourself....the more progress you will make. I suggest you also write out the question so when you read over your answer again it’ll make sense. If you have a hard back journal to do this work...all the better.... but all you really need is a few sheets of paper, a pen and a bit of personal space.

This is the most powerful question I know...and I use it very often....it can be about my whole life..or about a situation facing me...

1) What do I really want?

This is between YOU and the piece of paper so be completely honest. Get it all off your chest. Don’t judge what you’re saying in any way...just let it out. This is how YOU feel...this is YOUR truth.

It may be an idea to leave some space at the end in case anything else occurs to you later.

When you feel ready move on to Question 2) ....this does not have to be right now. You may want to sit with what you’ve written so far for a while. Trust your intuition. Be gentle on you. This may be the first time ever you have allowed yourself to REALLY admit how you are feeling.

As with Question 1 .... sit gently with the question...give yourself plenty of time to write your answers out...be BRUTALLY honest with yourself....I suggest you also write out the question so when you read over your answer again it’ll make sense.

 2) If there were NO pressures on me of any kind....What do I REALLY want?

 Again this is between YOU and the piece of paper so be completely honest. Get it all off your chest. Don’t judge what you’re saying in any way...just let it out. This is how YOU feel...this is YOUR truth.

Again leave some space at the end in case anything else occurs to you later.

When you feel ready move on to Question 3....and again this does not have to be right now. You may want to sit with Questions 1 & 2 for a while. Trust your intuition. Please be gentle on you. Well done..you are making great progress!

3) How would I like it to be?

Forget what does and does not SEEM possible to you right now! This blocks new solutions from unfolding. The very fact that you have been honest about what you want in questions 1 & 2 will already have started opening doors for you.

By focusing on the outcome you want you are directing your energy to create your solution.

Take action on what you feel you can take action on but only when/if it feels right. Leave the rest to unfold in its own way... in the perfect time!

I revisit this exercise very regularly. I always feel so much more at peace in myself when I am clear about what is right for me and it is always amazing what new opportunities / outcomes turn up when the exercise is completed.
